This is a CG version of a final project I've done two years ago. Both the initial sketch and final piece were previously done in watercolour. I took the sketch, scanned it and did some practice on colouring.

It took 3 or 4 days along with the usual breaks and distractions. I'm quite happy with how it turned out. Still trying to feel my way around, but I've improved leaps and bounds since 2 years ago when I did that snowman (click, also for richer colour visual). I still have even greater lengths to go, nonetheless.

The concept is rather simple. The world is a puzzling place. We used to make believe we were doctors and teachers, yet when we achieve those goals, we wish we had the time to stop and smell the roses once in a while. Albeit, no roses. Leaves are just the same, no? ^^; The puzzle piece at the bottom with the legs was never meant to be, even in the original. It was a way to hide the anatomy problem so the figure would not look quite so awkward.

Media: pencil sketch => Photoshop 7.0 + mouse ;_;

Vee, this piece is super fabulous!
I just love how detailed it is and it actually.. starts to make me think.
Now I see again why I'm going to do environmental studies @ uni! I don't want a polluted city as a background of my world!

Looking at technique.. not to shabby ey? XD very smooth and soft colors! The only pointer that I can make is that.. I thought that the person was standing with his front to our side.. but looking at the hands.. he's standing with his back at us? that's a tiny bit confusing for me ^^ ;
Thanks, Phee!
Environmental studies, huh? It's a worthwhile thing to get into considering the condition the world is in right now. I wish I were going into something that would benefit the population. Neither computer programmer or hobo fits that description.

XD I'm trying. Still working to find my style =P
Yes, I can see what you mean. I think it's the shading of the jacket? I'll see if I can fix it up. Thanks again!

I do like how this is colored and the consept. but i think your anatomy needs some work. I think the figure looks most ocquard becaus the hands are faceing the wrong way. if the hand is resting on te tree it would have the thumb pointing downward. and the hand holding the colth woudl have the plam faceing us.(or the tips of the fingers becaus its clenched )

I am sorry. I can't spell, but I am pretty good at art, and I can critique quite well also. (thats why I am here).
Thanks. I have noted that the anatomy of the figure is too short. The hands, however, there is a bit of confusion with which way the figure is facing. He was meant to have his back towards us, hence the configuation with the hands ^^;
