Painting Practice. 1.5 hours.

Based off the Facebook Grafitti work of Paul Yan.

I have a concept in my mind that is not a far stretch from this, but that's another exercise for another day. Perhaps once I get enough practice in, I can move away from imitating and begin creating.

I took a class in art philosophy last semester. I learned that for most of art history (up until about the last 50 years), art was considered to be nothing but imitation.

You can imitate and be creative--even innovative--at the same time. Titian did it. He took the strengths of everyone else's artwork and put it all together.

What I'm trying to say is that you don't have to have an absence of imitation to be creative.

This piece has a depressing effect on me. I guess it's because it looks like the duck is drowning, slowly sinking to the darkness below... who knows what will become of it? :(
Regardless, it's a very impressive piece and I admire your painting abilities!
